Alliant Energy helps Lakeside Foods save energy with plant upgrades

Refrigeration upgrades help save energy and money

PLAINVIEW, MN – Dec. 11, 2012 – Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy company, is helping Lakeside Foods fine tune its manufacturing facility and save a lot of energy. Recently, with the help of Alliant Energy, Lakeside Foods installed new equipment and new technology to increase efficiency in the production of its frozen vegetables.

Some of the new equipment installed this year includes a new blancher and veggie cooler and a new condenser for the individually quick frozen (IQF) freezer. These upgrades were targeted after an initial study to save energy in 2009. Because many of the manufacturing systems are inter-connected at the plant, engineers were able to combine savings and produce positive results. The annual savings on energy is estimated at 479,183 kilowatt-hours (kWh). That’s about enough energy to power 49 average Minnesota homes for one year.

“Saving energy is not just good business for Lakeside Foods, but also for our customers and the environment,” said Darrell Gosse, General Manager. “Alliant Energy made it easy to save energy, not only with their expertise, but also with their available incentives and rebates.”

Because of the improvements and upgrades, Lakeside Foods qualified for a rebate of approximately $69,000 from Alliant Energy. This one-time check is in addition to the annual savings on energy costs.

“We offer incentives and rebates to all classes of customers, everyone from industrial to residential,” said Rebecca Gisel, Alliant Energy key account manager. “Today’s technology makes it really easy to save energy.”

Alliant Energy offers numerous reward programs for residential, business, farm, or commercial facilities in Minnesota. Custom rebates are available for energy-savings projects that do not qualify for standard equipment rebates. Making energy-savings improvements in commercial facilities reduces energy use and results in lower energy bills for years to come.
