Alliant Energy helps City of Muscatine become more energy efficient

Projects reduce annual natural gas usage at several facilities

MUSCATINE, Iowa – October 16, 2012 – The City of Muscatine recently completed several projects that showcase the city’s commitment to energy-efficiency. Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy company, worked with city leaders to create energy savings with key projects at four different locations.

Recently, work was completed on the boilers at the Clark House, the City Hall, and the Museum. In addition, work was done on the new fire house to also help reduce natural gas usage. In total, these four projects will save about 5,211 therms of natural gas a year, or about $8,100 a year in energy costs.

“We recognize the importance of conserving energy and continuing to strive for energy-efficiency with municipal buildings. These buildings should set an example for the community on what is possible and sustainable,” said Gregg Mandsager, City Manager, City of Muscatine.

In addition to the energy savings, these four projects qualified for custom rebates totaling $5,440 from Alliant Energy.

“There are many ways to increase energy-efficiency in each building, and these projects show that every improvement makes a difference,” said Nancy Snaadt, key account manager, Alliant Energy.

Alliant Energy offers numerous reward programs for residential, business, farm or commercial facilities in Iowa. Custom rebates are available for energy-savings projects that do not qualify for standard equipment rebates. Making energy-savings improvements in commercial facilities reduces energy use and results in lower energy bills for years to come.
