Alliant Energy completes Power Iowa project in Hardin County

System upgrade to continue reliable service in Iowa

IOWA FALLS, Iowa – September 24, 2012 – Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL), an Alliant Energy company wrapped up a Power Iowa project in Hardin County which will enhance the safety and increase the reliability for residents of Alden and Buckeye.

Alliant Energy crews built a new substation to service customers in and around Alden and Buckeye, and retired two older substations in the area as part of this project. This new substation increases reliability in the area. Crews started working on this project in 2011. In addition to the new substation, crews also enhanced the power lines around the substation.

By the numbers – this project involved about 250 new poles and about 15 miles of new power lines in the area. This project represents Alliant Energy’s commitment to the area with an investment of more than $3,000,000 in the local electrical system.

“We’ve been developing this project a few years, and customers are already benefitting from the finished product,” said Eric Harms, manager of customer operations – Alliant Energy. “This project will make a positive difference in helping us deliver the service our customers count on.”

In addition to Alliant Energy’s improvements to the electrical distribution system, ITC Midwest is also improving the transmission lines in the area.

Alliant Energy’s 2012 Power Iowa Plan includes $80 million of planned investments this year in upgrading overhead and underground electric lines, electric substations and natural gas infrastructure. Power Iowa’s goal is to improve system reliability, reduce outages, and provide more reliable power to Alliant Energy’s Iowa customers.
