Alliant Energy announces Power Iowa project in Union

System upgrades to continue reliable service in Iowa

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – September 24, 2012 – Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL), an Alliant Energy company, is working on a Power Iowa project in and around the community of Union in Hardin County. This project will enhance the safety and increase the reliability for residents in the region.

Alliant Energy crews are building a new substation to service customers in and around Union, and will upgrade all the distribution lines that serve the community. This new substation will increase reliability in the area, including in the communities Gifford and Whitten. This project represents Alliant Energy’s commitment to the area with an investment of nearly $2,000,000 in the local electrical system.

“Customers will really see a big difference with this project,” said Eric Harms, manager of customer operations – Alliant Energy. “Because of the equipment we’re installing, this project will allow Alliant Energy to provide even more reliable service in the area.”

In addition to Alliant Energy’s improvements to the electrical distribution system, ITC Midwest is also improving the transmission lines in the area.

Alliant Energy’s 2012 Power Iowa Plan includes $80 million of planned investments this year in upgrading overhead and underground electric lines, electric substations and natural gas infrastructure. Power Iowa’s goal is to improve system reliability, reduce outages, and provide more reliable power to Alliant Energy’s Iowa customers.
