Alliant Energy Foundation awards $3,000 grant to City of Boone

Monies will help fund community entrance signs to welcome people to the city

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – September 11, 2012 – The Alliant Energy Foundation has provided a $3,000 Community Grant to the City of Boone as part of its second 2012 grant cycle. The monies will go toward the purchase and installation of community entrance signs to welcome visitors and travelers to the city.

“One of the goals of the Alliant Energy Foundation is to provide resources to communities within our utility service territory to help make them better places to live and work,” said Julie Bauer, Alliant Energy Foundation Executive Director. “We are pleased to provide dollars to help with putting in welcome signs and to support the City of Boone and its residents.”

The new signage is intended to raise the profile of Boone and give more visibility and a stronger welcome to travelers and visitors along Highway 30. The signage will also reuse materials from the buildings demolished as part of the 2009 downtown fire with plans to use large, pink granite for the base of the community entrance sign.

“The new signs will serve as a positive emblem of the successes of our community as well as demonstrate our community pride,” said Luke Nelson, City Administrator. “We appreciate the support of the Alliant Energy Foundation as a contributor to this important project.”

The Alliant Energy Foundation Community Grants Program awarded $335,000 in grants during its second grant cycle this year, bringing the year-to-date total to over $750,000 provided to more than 400 non-profit organizations and communities so far. The deadline for the final grant cycle this year is September 15. The online application is available at www.alliantenergy.com/foundation.
