CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – August 28, 2012 – The Alliant Energy Foundation has provided a $5,000 Community Grant to the City of Decorah’s Parks and Recreation Department as part of its second 2012 funding cycle. The funding will go toward materials to construct four oak, timber-framed informational kiosks as well as the purchase of kiosk visuals. The kiosks will be located along the 11-mile Trout Run Trail loop. The City of Decorah, Winneshiek County and private and public partners have been working to develop the trail since 1995 and the kiosks will be one of the final parts of the trail’s development.
“The Alliant Energy Foundation is pleased to support the Trout Run Trail and the installation of the kiosks that will provide residents and visitors with valuable information on the area,” said Julie Bauer, Alliant Energy Foundation Executive Director. “The Trail is a vital connection to many parts of the Decorah area and it adds not only to the beauty, but the economic development of region.”
Each of the planned kiosks will be positioned at high-traffic sites and not only provide locational information, but safety and educational background as well. The kiosks will be six-feet in height and eight-feet long, with large limestone block bases, and are expected to encourage more people to use the Trail and the many activities available along its 11-mile stretch.
The Alliant Energy Foundation Community Grants Program awarded $335,000 in grants during its second grant cycle this year, bringing the year-to-date total to over $750,000 provided to more than 400 non-profit organizations and communities so far. The deadline for the final grant cycle this year is September 15. The online application is available at www.alliantenergy.com/foundation.
