Alliant Energy Foundation provides $2,000 grant to Southern Wisconsin Emergency Preparedness Team

Rock County group will use funds to support emergency responders during disaster situations

MADISON, Wis. – August 28, 2012 – The Alliant Energy Foundation recently provided a $2,000 Community Grant to the Southern Wisconsin Emergency Preparedness Team (SWEPT) as part of its second 2012 funding cycle. SWEPT is a new non-profit group whose main function is to assist all emergency responders in Rock County on a 24/7 basis during disaster situations. While there are many charitable organizations that help victims of disasters, SWEPT will exclusively support the needs of emergency personnel like fire, police, 911 center and emergency management workers.

“As a utility company, we know firsthand that when disasters strike, emergency responders work long hours oftentimes under very stressful circumstances,” said Julie Bauer, Alliant Energy Foundation Executive Director. “The Foundation is proud to contribute to SWEPT so it can make sure that Rock County emergency workers receive food, water and care as they go above and beyond to serve others.”

SWEPT is working to maintain and stock its own a recently-donated vehicle with food and supplies, and also works to keep a Town of Beloit rehab vehicle filled with food and supplies, for use during disasters, accidents or other significant events. The vehicles respond as needed to all of Rock County and are dispatched through the 911 Center.

The Alliant Energy Foundation Community Grants Program awarded $335,000 in grants during its second grant cycle this year, bringing the year-to-date total to over $750,000 provided to more than 400 non-profit organizations and communities so far. The deadline for the final grant cycle this year is September 15. The online application is available at www.alliantenergy.com/foundation.
