Alliant Energy helps Lance Private Brands increase energy efficiency with new lights

Equipment upgrades help organization save energy and money

BURLINGTON, Iowa – July 23, 2012 – Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy company, recently awarded a large rebate to Lance Private Brands, for a major project to make the company’s bakery plant more energy efficient. The project recently wrapped up with installation of new, energy-efficient lighting and lighting controls at the plant.

This project is expected to reduce energy use at the Lance Private Brands Bakery plant by more than 2,250,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) a year. By using newer, more efficient bulbs, the plant is expected to save 1,850,000 kWh a year. By installing occupancy sensors, lights will automatically turn off when not needed. These sensors are expected to save more than 400,000 kWh a year.

“This savings in energy is equal to taking more than 300 average passenger cars off the road through green-house gas savings. Another way to look at it is the energy saved could power more than 2,004 Iowa homes for a year,” said Frank Shipley, Plant Technical Manager, Lance Private Brands. “We’re really proud of our ability to make a positive impact in our community and our environment with this investment.”

In addition to saving money on energy costs, Alliant Energy presented a rebate check to Lance Private Brands for $171,690 for the work done and equipment bought.

“We’re excited that we can offer these incentives to Lance Private Brands,” said Nancy Snaadt, Alliant Energy key account manager. “This project at Lance Bakery is one of the larger projects we’ve seen in Iowa, and it shows their commitment to becoming more energy efficient.”

Alliant Energy offers numerous reward programs for residential, business, farm or commercial facilities in Iowa. Custom rebates are available for energy-savings projects that do not qualify for standard equipment rebates. Making energy-savings improvements in commercial facilities reduces energy use and results in lower energy bills for years to come.
