Alliant Energy helps green up Industrial Parks across Iowa

Trees can help increase energy efficiency

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – June 19, 2012 – With the help of Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL), an Alliant Energy company, two Iowa industrial parks are on the way to getting greener. This summer, residents and workers in Cedar Rapids will benefit from new trees in the St. Martin Airport Plaza. An industrial park in Storm Lake was also awarded a grant to plant energy-saving trees.

“St. Martin Airport Plaza is proud to be a recipient of Alliant Energy's Industrial Park Tree Grant,” said Tom Slattery, director, St. Martin Land Company. “Together with Hughes Landscaping and Kirkwood Community College, St Martin Airport Plaza thanks Alliant Energy for their continued contribution to the local business community.”

Kirkwood Community College Agricultural Sciences Department staff and students helped with the project at St. Martin Airport Plaza. They learned about and promoted the benefits of tree planting within industrial and commercial areas.

The Industrial Park Tree Grant Program provides funding for trees for land developers and industrial parks that are existing or are currently being developed in Iowa communities served by Alliant Energy. This program offers tree-planting grants specifically for industrial parks to encourage energy efficiency, environmental awareness and support economic growth.

Industrial Park Tree Grant applications are accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year, but are considered for funding during a spring and fall grant-making cycle. The next application deadline is August 15, 2012.
