Alliant Energy Power Wisconsin project underway near Princeton

Roeder Substation upgrade to improve reliability and efficiency

Princeton, Wis. – March 26, 2012 – Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), an Alliant Energy company, is nearing completion of another Power Wisconsin Project. The project involves upgrading the Roeder Substation, which will improve reliability and efficiency. The substation is located about 2.5 miles south of Princeton and helps supply the community and surrounding area with electric service.

Alliant Energy is adding new relays and circuit breakers at the substation and is also installing equipment that will allow the company to remotely monitor the substation, providing faster notification of any operational problems. The current overhead line coming from the substation will be converted to an underground line. The company’s investment in the upgrade project is nearly $725,000 and it is scheduled for completion by the end of this month.

“The Roeder Substation plays an important role in providing electric service to the Princeton area and we definitely want to keep it in top shape,” said Greg Ardrey, Alliant Energy’s Manager of Project Management - Substations. “Completing this upgrade with improve the reliability of the substation and gives us the ability to respond quickly if something does come up.”

Alliant Energy’s 2012 Power Wisconsin Plan includes $50 million of planned investments this year in upgrading overhead and underground electric lines, electric substations and natural gas infrastructure. Power Wisconsin’s goal is to improve system reliability, reduce outages, and provide more reliable power to Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin customers.
