Alliant Energy helps Michael Foods increase lights and decrease costs

Equipment upgrades help organization save energy and money

CRESTON, Iowa – March 14, 2012 – Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy company, is helping Michael Foods further enhance their commitment to the environment. Recently, Michael Foods finished another major project to become more energy efficient at their plant in Lenox, Iowa by replacing the main lights in the plant.

In this latest push to increase energy-efficiency, the plant replaced older high-pressure sodium lights with fluorescent lighting. This dropped the energy usage from 400 watts per light to 154 watts per light.

“Not only did we reduce the energy we use, but by upgrading to newer technology, the lighting on the plant floor drastically improved too,” said Randy Samo, maintenance manager – Michael Foods.

This work will reduce annual energy use by 732,715 kilowatt-hours (kWh).

“We’re excited that Michael Foods was able to take advantage of this energy-saving program,” said David Vollmar, Alliant Energy key account manager. “I want our customers to know they can qualify for incentives to help them save energy.”

Alliant Energy offers numerous reward programs for residential, business, farm or commercial facilities in Iowa. Custom rebates are available for energy-savings projects that do not qualify for standard equipment rebates. Making energy-savings improvements in commercial facilities reduces energy use.
