Platteville, Wis. – March 14, 2012 – Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), an Alliant Energy company, will begin another Power Wisconsin Project later this month. The electric portion of the project involves adding up to 100 new electric poles along Water Street within the City of Platteville and stretching north along Highway 80 to the southern edge of Livingston. The gas component of the work will include putting in over two miles of underground natural gas main within the City of Platteville, also along Water Street. The project is being done in preparation for the reconstruction of Water Street and Highway 80, which is expected to start this April or May.
“With the Water Street and Highway 80 reconstruction planned for later this year, we need to upgrade and move our electric overhead lines as well as our gas mains to accommodate the road work,” said Steve Lyman, Alliant Energy Senior Manager of Customer Operations. “Our project will also improve the reliability of our energy delivery system with the new equipment we are installing.”
New electric poles will be added along Water Street between Pine Street and Golf View Drive in the City of Platteville. Poles will continue to be installed on that same route along Highway 80, starting at the north city limits of Platteville going to Livingston. New 4-inch plastic gas lines will also be put in along Water Street between Pine Street and Golf View Road. Alliant Energy’s investment in the project is $875,000 and it is scheduled for completion by early June. The company is asking drivers in the area to slow down and look out for workers and equipment during the electric and gas system work.
Alliant Energy’s 2012 Power Wisconsin Plan includes $50 million of planned investments this year in upgrading overhead and underground electric lines, electric substations and natural gas infrastructure. Power Wisconsin’s goal is to improve system reliability, reduce outages, and provide more reliable power to Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin customers.
