Alliant Energy heats up customer assistance efforts

$100,000 donation to Hometown Care Energy Fund provides heating assistance to customers

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – March 13, 2012 – Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL), an Alliant Energy company, has donated $100,000 to its Hometown Care Energy Fund. The Fund benefits Alliant Energy customers in need of heating assistance in Iowa and Minnesota.

“Our Hometown Care Energy Fund allows us to provide some financial relief to the customers who need it most,” said Tim Heinrich, director of Customer Support Services – Alliant Energy. “This is the right thing to do to help our customers and these funds will help those customers who have difficulty paying for their heat during the critical winter months.”

Alliant Energy’s Hometown Care Energy Fund, raises donations that are used by Community Action Groups in Iowa and Minnesota to help customers in crisis, above and beyond the assistance provided by the Federal Low-Income Heating Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

“This year families continue to need help, and we appreciate the leadership of Alliant Energy to assist those in need,” said Lana Ross, executive director of Iowa Community Action Association. “Community action agencies rely on the generosity of corporations like Alliant Energy and individual donors to help families keep their homes safe and warm. This generous $100,000 contribution will help many families.” In 2011 the Hometown Care Energy Fund helped more than 1,400 households across Iowa and Minnesota with an average grant of $125 each.

In 2011, Alliant Energy customers donated $179,000 to the Fund through optional donations made when they paid their bill.

Since 2000, Alliant Energy shareholders, employees and IPL customers have donated more than $3 million to help people with heating assistance through the Hometown Care Energy Fund.
