Alliant Energy starts Power Iowa project in Lowden

System upgrades to continue reliable service in Iowa

DE WITT, Iowa – February 22, 2012 – Interstate Power and Light Co. (IPL), an Alliant Energy company, is starting work on another Power Iowa Project to rebuild the electrical system in part of Lowden in Cedar County, which will enhance the safety and increase the reliability for area residents.

This project has recently started and is expected to last for the remainder of 2012. Alliant Energy crews will replace 130 power poles. They will also replace more than 1.8 miles of three-phase power line and more than one mile of single-phase power line.

Together, this project represents an investment of more than $810,000 in the community of Lowden.

“This is a big project for our customers in Lowden, and is the most extensive rebuild of their lines in a long time,” said construction manager Jeff Recker. “This rebuild project will help continue the strong tradition of reliable service to all of our customers, especially our customers here in Lowden.”

Alliant Energy crews will notify and work with customers if their power must be disconnected for a brief time during this project.

Alliant Energy’s 2012 Power Iowa Plan includes $57 million of planned investments this year in upgrading overhead and underground electric lines, electric substations and natural gas infrastructure. Power Iowa’s goal is to improve system reliability, reduce outages, and provide more reliable power to Alliant Energy’s Iowa customers.
