Alliant Energy Foundation provides $1,000 grant to Habitat for Humanity

Dollars will support building of a new home for a Stewartville family of seven

STEWARTVILLE, Minnesota – February 09, 2012 – The Alliant Energy Foundation has provided a $1,000 Community Grant to the Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity to assist with the cost of building a new home for a local Stewartville family of seven.

“We believe communities thrive when all of citizens have stable, affordable, and dignified housing,” said Alliant Energy Foundation Executive Director, Julie Bauer. “We are proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity; an organization who works to eliminate poverty housing by providing responsible homeownership opportunities for working families in the communities we serve.”

Thanks to the support of more than100 donors, dozens of local volunteers, service groups and businesses, construction on the new Habitat home was completed in 2011 and a dedication was held on October 30, 2011. The house was built to both ENERGY STAR® and Minnesota Green Communities standards, ensuring a minimal carbon footprint and lower utility bills for the life of the structure. The new house is now called home by a Stewartville family comprised of a widowed mother and her six minor children.

“We are extremely appreciative for the outpouring of support from the Stewartville community, as well as for this generous grant from the Alliant Energy Foundation,” said Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity Executive Director, Kevin Worden. “This remarkable family has already triumphed over incredible adversity and we hope this new home helps give each family member an opportunity for a fresh start.”
