ALBERT LEA, Minnesota – Feb. 6, 2012 – Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy company, is helping Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with some major upgrades to its facility by reducing its energy use and cost.
Recently, the hospital has finished some major projects by adding occupancy sensors on lights, converting standard bulbs to fluorescent bulbs, and adding insulation. These projects will save the campus an estimated 407,612 kilowatt-hours (kWh) a year. That’s the same amount of energy ten average homes would use in a year.
“By reducing the energy we use, we’re not only helping control costs for our customers, we’re also helping the environment by reducing emissions,” said Mark Fenstermacher, facilities director for the medical center. “Becoming more energy-efficient is an easy way to stay competitive and keep a strong commitment to the Earth”
In addition to saving energy, the medical center qualified for more than $93,000 in rebates from Alliant Energy. The reward comes from the custom rebate program with Alliant Energy.
“Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea has been very proactive in energy efficiency and it has been a pleasure to work with them,” said Rebecca Gisel, Alliant Energy key account manager. “We appreciate their commitment to reducing its impact on the environment and applaud their leadership’s proactive approach in pursuing energy-efficient improvement projects. We want all of our customers to know they too can qualify for incentives to help them save money too.”
Alliant Energy offers numerous reward programs for residential, business, farm or commercial facilities in Minnesota. Custom rebates are available for energy-savings projects that do not qualify for standard equipment rebates. Making energy-savings improvements in commercial facilities reduces energy use and results in lower energy bills for years to come.
