BELOIT, Wis. – January 25, 2012 – Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), an Alliant Energy company, will be soon be starting work on another Power Wisconsin Project to increase the reliability over its existing power lines and ultimately supply more electricity to the Beloit area.
The project will also enhance the safety of the region’s electric system. The project work will start Monday, January 30 and will begin along the vicinity of Liberty Avenue and Bluff Street in the City of Beloit. Line technicians performing the work and line clearance crews doing spot tree trimming will progressively move west over roughly eight blocks during the project and finish near the area of Liberty Avenue and Hackett Street. The project will take approximately two weeks and will include the lowering of distribution lines on nine electric poles.
During the two-week project, residents and travelers through the area should note that parking will not be allowed on both sides of Liberty Avenue in a one-to-two block stretch from 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., roughly in the timeframe of Monday, January 30 through Friday, February 10. The affected one-to-two block restricted parking area will be posted the day prior to provide notice to those that regularly park on the street.
In addition, there will be a limited amount of planned electric outages for select residents in the Liberty Street region between Bluff Street and Hackett Street during the project. If residents are to be impacted, they will receive advance notice from Alliant Energy. Customers should ensure their phone numbers are up-to-date with Alliant’s customer service center (1-800-255-4268) so they will receive adequate advanced notice of any planned outage at their residence. Given that Liberty Avenue is a commonly-used traffic route through the city, Alliant Energy is asking drivers in the area to slow down and look out for workers and equipment.
Alliant Energy’s 2012 Power Wisconsin Plan includes $50 million of planned investments this year in upgrading overhead and underground electric lines, electric substations and natural gas infrastructure. Power Wisconsin’s goal is to improve system reliability, reduce outages, and provide more reliable power to Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin customers.
