Emission control projects: Ottumwa Generating Station

Construction continues to move along at the Ottumwa Generating Station near Chillicothe, Iowa, where Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL) is installing a baghouse/carbon injection and scrubber system on Unit 1.

The baghouse/carbon injection and scrubber systems will reduce mercury (Hg) emissions for compliance with Wisconsin’s mercury rule and sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions to comply with state and federal SO2 reductions. They will also provide the additional benefits of capturing fine particulate matter and reducing sulfuric acid mist.

Construction has been underway on this approximately $345 million project since early spring 2012. IPL continues to anticipate commercial operation of these controls in 2014.

Unit 1 will also have additional upgrades made which will improve operating efficiency and lead to reduced fuel costs for customers.
